Duk Soup for Naturally Fed Ferrets: - Wednesday, October 01, 2008 10:47 PM
For Ferrets on a Raw Diet:

Ingredients:
8oz of raw chicken thigh meat (including skin and fat)
1 tsp of finely ground eggshell powder
1/2 raw chicken liver
1 raw chicken heart
Water sufficient for processing
A few drops of fish oil from a Nature Made Fish Oil Capsule

Directions:
Blend all of this together in a blender. If your ferret is sick for an extended period of time, switch out the chicken with other meats, such as beef, pork, lamb, turkey, etc, to provide a variety of nutrients. Freeze soup into ice cube trays. Thaw and serve. Pedialyte (unflavored) can be substituted for teh water sufficient for processing.

For Ferrets on A Whole Prey Diet:

Ingredients:
Whole Prey Animal
Water Sufficient for Processing (or unflavored pedialyte)

Directions:
1. Take frozen feeder animal and cut into small pieces. First make slices like you are slicing a loaf of bread. Then slice those slices in half.

2. Mince the prey animal very fine. The smaller the chunks, the better

3. Add chunks to food processor, grinder, or blender.

4. Add water sufficient for processing

5. Blend or grind smooth

6. Serve immediately. Discard uneaten "soup" after 6 hours.

*Note: This sounds absolutely foul, but if you cut the mouse while its frozen it really isnt that bad at all. When blending do your best to blend it super smooth. Add extra water if needed. If feeding a sick ferret for an extended period of time, vary the type and age of the prey animal.
