Straining to poo. What can I do?
-
Sunday, August 05, 2018 12:42 AM
Hi all- My almost 3 year old Male ferret has been having belly issues. Roughly 18 hours ago it started with some small stool. I have been pushing water to keep him from getting dehydrated. A few hours ago I noticed he has been straining to poop. He repeatedly tries pushing with no success. I have been doing the petroleum jelly and pumpkin regime. He hasn't had a healthy stool yet. He now has a hemorrhoid (I believe) present. At this point I don't know what to do. Hoping for a little insight. Keep up the vaseline and pumpkin regime? When should I seek a vet? There wont be one open near me for at least 36hrs unless I find an ER vet who deals with ferrets in my area. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Try giving him some egg yolk. If you have a syringe use that if he won’t lick it from a bowl or plate. Could he have ingested something that could be causing a blockage? Is he a chewer? I would definitely do a vet visit.

I would take him into the vet's office.
