I need advice - my little guy isn't too well - Monday, May 01, 2017 5:55 AM
Hello everyone.

My little ferret, Oscar, is about 6 years old.
However, his health has recently been a concern and I took him to the Vet (been there before for vaccinations and desexing).

The vet, who doesn't have much experience with ferrets, with the symptoms described, a couple of x rays and a listen to the heart, concluded that Oscar has heart disease.

The x rays showed a lot of fluid in his body that prevented us seeing his heart, showed little oxygen in his airways and she also found he has a heart murmur.

Oscar Is my first ferret and I love him immensely. I was old by the vet that If he were a canine or feline in that condition, with the state of his heart, weakness and fluid in his body on the x ray, that they would suggest putting him to sleep.

Not being ready to say goodbye, I opted to try him on a diuretic and heart tablets.

In my country, and area, there isn't many vets who have a lot of knowledge with ferrets.

What I'm trying to find out if there are any people here who have dealt with heart disease fuzzies and whether it could be something else and not heart disease, or should I start prepping to say goodbye?

A sincere Thankyou to anyone who has advice to share
