Type Of Bedding - Sunday, February 05, 2017 1:32 PM
Hi, I will soon be getting a ferret. I have been told to use something like crumbled paper. Just seems a little pricy for paper. Anyways can I use low dust wood shavings, like for rabbits etc. I know that the dust is what can cause resp. Issues but I was figuring if its low dust it would be ok. Cause I get my wood shavings for my chickens at tractor supply for like $6 and the size of the bag would last me like forever LOL. SO is there a cheaper alternative like the low dust wood shavings, or I have to stick to the crumbled paper....

Definitely no shavings or anything with dust! The low count doesn't really matter. When I first got Loki, I used spare carpeting in the cage that he used to have. Just something that makes their feet comfortable is good! If you are looking for commercial litter, the one that I use is called Purina Yesterday's News. It is made from recycled paper and does not clump. There's no dust or residue and it is very easy to scoop and dispose.
