Do ferret nips hurt?
-
Tuesday, December 15, 2015 7:32 AM
Hi everyone. During my research on ferrets, I have read and heard a lot about baby ferrets "nipping". I wanted to know if this nipping was really a painful experience, if it hurts or breaks the skin. Thanks Scarlett

Baby ferret nips do hurt a little bit, but usually never break the akin. They nip in play so when they're young teach them biting ia bad with a firm no and a scruff or a yelp.

Nips are different than bites. Bites hurt and often break the skin. It generally means leave me alone or put me down. Biting can be trined out of a ferret. Nips are more playful, but you want to train your ferret not to progress from nipping to biting. Our Rosa will go from nipping to biting me in the blink of an eye, because I am lax with discipline, but she never nips my wife.
