Solutions to Bar-Backed Chairs?

So I have the typical kitchen chairs with the barred backs. These were never an issue for a long time but today Bear got his head stuck and really scared himself, and me too. He seems to be okay now, was just shaken up.

Now I'm trying to look at possible ways to ferret proof the backs without having to remove them from the kitchen every night. Have any of you tried any solutions that seem to work?

That's a good one.  I'm thinking of weaving something between the bars, like some thin clear plastic sheet or some kind of padding.  Or, duct tape fixed everything, lol.  Maybe some sort of cord, if you could get it tight enough so it wouldn't slip down.

What about using clear plastic table cover.  Like unclejoe mention....weave it between bars.
