Chicken and other foods
-
Wednesday, May 27, 2015 12:26 PM
My ferret has been on a pellet diet his whole life. It is pretty good quality pellet food, specially formulated for ferrets with high protein and real meat in it. I've recently realized I should vary his diet up a bit with other foods, but I can't find anything he will eat. I've tried raw and boiled chicken and he won't eat them. I've tried coating them in ferretone and he just licks it off. Any ideas on what I can try or try to feed him?

We haven't had a lot of luck feeding raw (and currently don't have the budget for it) but they do eat raw ground turkey, chicken or pork mixed into soups. We started by grinding their kibble (pellets) into powder and mixing it with warm water to make a thin mush. Then we had to put some in their mouth to get them to try it. From there, we mixed in the poultry mince and later added a decent all meat canned cat food.

I can try that. I put some of the cooked chicken into his food bowl and gonna see if he eats it in there. I'm a little iffy about forcing his mouth open to make him eat it, but thats what I hear I should try.

The only cooked chicken min wold eat was baby food. If you make the soup, you can see if they will lick it from your finger or just put some under their cheeks.
