Roll Balls
-
Wednesday, May 06, 2015 6:55 AM
Do ferrets like the big balls that you can get and put them in so that they can roll around the house in,Like the little ones for Hamsters. Also my daughter had an extra bird toy that hangs from the top of the cage and has a bell at the bottom and some of the wood naw things in the middle of it. I'm very protective of my little Tandon and I did not put the bird toy in the cage because I didn't know it the painted wood word hurt my little man. Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Jay & Tandon

You were right to ask. No on both. You don't want him chewing on wood. Also the balls are not good for them. It is not good for their backs and they need to be able to run and play. They need the exercise and room to stretch. I bought one for my first ferret and took it back. He hated it. Sat there and stared at me like "what the h". Since then I discourage people from buying them. Even told a local pet shop they shouldn't sell them.

Yeah, if you look at a ferret's spine you can see that is has a pronounced arch, which goes in the opposite direction of the inside of one of those balls. There are plenty of safe toys for ferrets. Mine love boxes and plastic grocery bags. I cut holes in boxes and they will all explore them. Just put a plastic bag on the floor and every ferret in the house will find it. Attach a rope or leash to a cut off box and pull it around. They will jump in and go for rides.

Thank you Unclejoe & bandit for the information the plastic bag will not hurt him we had one on the floor last night while Tandon was out playing and I picked it up so that he would not get into it I guess I should have left it and let him play with it if he wanted, I was curios about the ball thing but makes perfect sense, I'm thinking about getting another ferret so that Tandon will have some one to play with.

Make sure you cut the handles off the plastic bags. You don't want them to get tangle up in the handles. My kids love towels/blanket rides. Place your ferret on a towel/blanket and drag them around the house.
