Update on me

Thursday I finished my first 8-week Level II internship for my Occupational Therapist Assistant degree. I was working at a place that assists inner city (Orlando) homeless and impoverished individuals and families. While it was not traditional Occupational Therapy per se, and the drive from my home to downtown O'Town was a royal PITA (the 58 mile drive down I-4 took 90 minutes on a good day), it was rewarding work and I'm not sorry I was there. I worked with some great social workers and volunteers. I helped assess the needs of new clients and directed them to resources they could use and referred them to case managers. I just hope I can make it look good on my resume. My next rotation starts this week. It will be real OT at a nursing home/rehab 7 MILES from my house.!! Woohoo! I've already spoken to the rehab director and she sounds nice and she says while it can get busy it's pretty laid back and I will be allowed time to work up to a respectable case load. I gotta do good here. Graduation is May 18! I started taking remedial classes at this stinkin college in Jan 2009. What a long, strange trip it's been.
