treats

I am trying to give my guys some other treats or things to keep them busy while they are in the cage. Was thinking about pizzle chews, chicken feet, or maybe even a smoke bone (normally for dogs that you can get at a meatarket) also thinking maybe smart bone. I know that they cannot digest rawhide but those are 99% rawhide free. They do get there nightly n-bones and have had some dehydrated chicken fillets. Just looking for other options I have tried the raw food and they didn't really take to that. They left it alone.

Egg. If they don't take to it right away mix a little olive oil in it and blend well. I order hydrated meat treats from ferret.com. My boys love those, and way to expensive at the pet store. Salmon oil is a good treat.

Can I mix the egg in with there food or put it in a different dish. How long does it take for them to enjoy raw food. When I gave them some raw chicken they didn't even touch it. Is any meat ok as long as it is all natural.

I would put the raw egg into a separate dish. Usually kits will imprint on raw chicken easily then adults. You can try the raw meat on them to see if they like it. Have you made soup for them? Ferrets imprint on food at very young and can be finicky eaters as adults. I like to imprint my ferrets on a variety of food, including different types of high quality ferret food/cooked or raw chicken/mice/chicken gravy and or duck soup and baby food. I like to feed variety of ferret food reasons being: Gradually getting your ferret used to a variety of foods really comes in handy, especially if your regular food is out stock or isn't being produced anymore or the Mfg has a quality control problem. Imprinting your little one on duck soup/chicken gravy at young age makes it easier on your in case your little one gets sick or goes off it’s kibbles. Duck soup/chicken gravy also makes a good healthy treat. I hope this helps.

My soup entails: I pickup a whole chicken from wal-mart. Cook the chicken in a cock pot. Let it cool Then what I do is pick away the meat and skin. Put that into a blender with some of the chicken both. Blend until smooth. Put the chicken soup into ice cube trays (single serving). Then freeze it. thaw out the cube and serve to your ferrets. You might have to sit down with your ferret and put some on your fingers...until they realize this is good stuff. It best to get your little one on to soup. If they ever go off their kibbles you can at least give them some soup. If your little one has to take meds. Putting the meds into the soup will be much easier. It's healthy treat for them. Adding some heavy whipping cream to soup will add calories to soup to help put weight on a ferret.

I would do the egg in a separate bowl. I know mine gobble it up the way I make it, so it never sits. And if they leave anything the cat gets it. As for raw, I've not had luck with that. But if they don't take to it right away, try putting alittle olive or salmon oil on it. Mine are rescues and adults so it's been tricky
