Any raw meats are fine, as long as they are unprocessed and unsalted. Most ferrets seem to take well to poultry, but mine also really like pork. I make a basic soupie of raw meats that all of my ferrets really like 8oz boneless chicken thigh 2oz liver 2 chicken hearts 1/4 tsp bone meal or eggshell powder puree with some water and voila! It is recommended to remove kibble for a few hours before feeding raw, as feeding both at the same time can cause tummy upset

You can certainly feed raw to jills. I know a breeder in Devon, UK, who feeds rabbit and poultry to her ferrets, and keeps kibble available. (We make soups with ground kibble and ground turkey, chicken or pork, mostly turkey) She has a webcam and chat open now as she is expecting 2 litters in the coming weeks. You have to sign up to chat. http://www.devoncountryferrets.co.uk/#!nestcam/cjg9 Raw options include frozen whole prey (mice or chicks) freeze dried raw, chicken, organs, or cornish game hens.

Hi there...any kind of raw meat is fine for your ferret, that's awesome that you're starting them on this. You can even feed organ meat and bones. One word of advice though: don't feed raw meat and kibble on the same day. Or at least, wait a long time after feeding kibble to feed them raw meat. It's something about the binders in kibble...it upsets their stomachs, when both raw meat and kibble are fed. Otherwise, it should be really healthy, especially for your girl!

It's something about the binders in kibble...it upsets their stomachs Actually we feed a mix of both raw and kibble (current food mix is Ziwipeak and Go Natural). No digestive issues have occurred. The reason why they say to not feed both at the same time is because kibble and raw digest at different rates and MAY effect digestive transit times if a ferret has a sensitive stomach. As for adding raw to a kibble diet, it is very healthy. Many people feed kibble as meals, and treat with raw foods. (raw pieces of chicken, chicken wings, pieces of liver or giblets, raw soupies, etc)

I also feed both raw and kibbles to my kids. (Nature Variety Instinct Raw and Raw Boost /Grain Free Kibbles). My furkids have the raw boost or grain free kibbles available 24 hours a day in there cage. They get two medallions of Nature variety instinct raw AM/PM They also get soup as a healthy treat. (raw/cook chicken) My kids have no problem begging for raw meat when mom is preparing dinner. Mom is always cutting off raw meat to kids when preparing dinner for humans. They have been on this diet for about three years. I have not seen a problem with their stool. Just my experience and I hope this helps.
