Shivering Ferrets - Friday, April 10, 2009 1:51 PM
Many times you will see your ferret(s) shivering, and think they are cold. somtimes this means they are cold, but many times ferrets shiver when they get warm. so fi you see your ferret shivering in a fleece jacket or coat, don't say it does'nt keep your ferret warm! Many ferret owners that hav'nt studdied that think it means they are cold.

When they wake up, they shiver to acclimate their body temp.

When i was looking at ferret.com's "ferret Clothing" i was looking at a ferret sweater, and a person said that her ferret kept shivering and that the sweater did'nt work, and that it was a waste of money. But she was wrong, and probably was'nt very knowladgeable on ferrets, otherwise i bet she would'nt of said that.

I have noticed mine will "shiver or tremble" with excitement or anticipation. They could be running around, playing & such, but if I get out the bottle of 'tone, & pick on up for s treat, they start shaking...."oh goodie, goodie"...LOL

The girls do that when they wake up.  XD  I always feel bad for them because they shake so hard.  Their little feet shake all over, so I just pick them up and pet them for a while, then they get it under control.

Ferrets shiver to raise their body temperature.    It's natural way, after all  they do sleep 1/2 the day.  I have seen a ferret shiver, when I scruff him.  I felt so bad, it was normal for him to shiver when scruff.

Like others said, ferrets will shiver when they are excited.

Shivering is also one of sign hypothermina

I hope this helps
