Are scratching posts safe? - Monday, November 30, 2020 12:41 AM
Hello everybody

My baby loves to claw/paw at things. Is it safe for a Ferret to play with a scratching post and/or house, like the ones they make for cats, so long as it doesn't include any catnip?

I know  long time  I will try to moderate this forum in the interest of ferret health.
Scratching posts are fine but it's unlikely your ferret will actually be interested. Ferrets dig to make tunnels (think getting under a door)  they don't scratch to sharpen their claws like cats.  Also, catnip does not affect ferrets at all.  Yo9u will have to keep your ferret's nails trimmed, and you can make a dig box filled with clean dirt, whole grain rice, macaroni noodles or other safe material to satisfy the digging urge.  Mine love rice.
