Hello, Brand New Ferret Mom
-
Thursday, July 09, 2015 8:19 PM
Hi guys. This is all new to me. New ferret first time forum -er ha. I thought this would be a useful tool for my little guy. His name is Bruce and he is 10 weeks old. I just brought him home and ive had him for a week :) hes been great. Although whenever he sleeps on me and wakes up he seems frightened and bites. I scuff him and say no and place him down and he lunges at me and attempts to bite harder. Hes still a baby and is still learning i suppose? Nice to say hi to ya'all

Hello. Welcome to the wonderful world of ferrets. Lke puppies and kittens, young ferrets are nippy. They do grow out of it, but you don't want them thinking that biting is a game. For now you can use toys when playing with him so he does't bite you. When using time out for discipline, don't go more than 3-5 minutes before letting him back out. You can also just stop playing and walk away when he plays too rough. I've only had a couple biters past the age of 6 months, and both were older when I got them and came from bad homes. Both were successfully rehabilitated, and now Rosa is one of the best kissers We've had.

Hey thanks for the advise :) he is not free roam just yet as i am still in the process of totally ferret proofing the house but for now hes allowed out of the cage whenever I am home. I have tried to redirect his nipping, however he loves fingers and my toes way more! Lil bugger! When i do walk away he follows and lunges at me ... which is my understanding of him want to play with me. What is the best approach to teaching him boundaries and how hard he nips without constantly having to put him back in his cage. I dont want his cage to turn into a bad experience.

Another method is to scruff and drag him a couple feet on the floor while saying no. Ferrets do this to each other to establish dominance.

How do I post pictures and change my profile pic. 1. Posting pictures - I usually upload the pictures to photobucket and then I paste image URL address into the post. 2. When you open up a new post. Look at the bottom of post. You will see " You may attach file(s) to this message" You can upload your picture this way also. There is a size requirement. Profile Picture: *Go to "User Control Panel" (it's menu on top of the forum) *Select Profile *Click on "Avatar\Profile Photo" tab This is where you upload pictures for your Avatar and/or profile. I hope this helps

this site is pretty unique of the dozens I've joined. For your avatar photo, use the direct link, not the url/img
