Cage Saftey ( sorry for some many threads) - Wednesday, November 04, 2009 8:07 PM
Is this cage I was looking at safe?
http://qualitycage.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=129_169_179&products_id=945
the ferrets will chew all of the coating off and this could make them very ill.
I read this in an artical.
The other model I was looking at was made of galvanized wire, which I know is not good.
By the way, I posted this at the bottom of my other thread, but its been a few days and havent gat an awnser.

I thought I had remembered reading somewhere why galvanized cages were not recommended for ferrets.  I did a little searching, and came up with:
"If you decide on galvanized wire, the cage needs to be scrubbed and brushed
thoroughly with a cleaning solution and dried before being occupied by ferrets. Why?

The galvanized metal dust particles contain zinc, which is toxic to ferrets. By cleaning the cage prior to putting the ferret inside, you rule out the possibility of toxicity from chewing on the wire. Don’t use Lysol or similar chemical solutions in cleaning, since residue from these compounds can be lethal. Use a warm soapy solution, and rinse well."

It's not good cause the wire floors is not good for their feet. I would never get this cage.
