Help! - Monday, November 02, 2009 5:19 AM
I just recently got two new ferrets, and William's poop does not seem normal! Now it is diarrhea and it seems like there is blood. But we have changed his diet and it is only the first full day of him being here. I was wondering if that would be a reason why he is having diarrhea? Is he stressed? Does the change of diet effect something like that? HELP! I am really concerned? Could it be something more? It is only William, the other ferret Jacen doesnt seem to have any problems. Any thoughts please let me know! Thanks!

When you say you see "blood" what color are you seeing? Black/tarry color or bright red? Did you change him to a food that has red dye in it? Is it possible he could have gotten into something he shouldn't (that would cause red in the stool).

Well, the food has a red dye which is what I thought before but most of it was a normal color and then a little bit of red. I was hoping that it was just a food! I am going to watch him very carefully today and see if he gets over his diarrhea.

It very well could be the food. Is there anyway you can switch him back to his old diet for a day or two and see if he still had the red in his poopies then? If he does, then Its obviously not the dye. If its gone, then you know its just the dye.
