How to get a ferret to eat dry food?
-
Tuesday, September 29, 2015 6:57 PM
Okay so my ferret Mushu seems to be a bit of a picky eater. He would not touch the marshalls, which it was super bad for him anyways. Now I have him on Zupreen, and he doesn't seem to Mind it, but the only way he will really eat it is mixed with wet cat food I'm cutting back how much I'm mixing in to get him on straight kibble, what else can I do? I don't want him to starve himself.

My concern with the cat food is people keep telling me even if I'm slowly cutting it out it's still spooling him and he'll never eat plain dry food. I just wonder if the kinked are too hard for his teeth yet.

No, kibbles are not hard for their teeth. That is what those teeth are made to do. I started my two kits at 7 weeks old on raw chicken wings and raw meat. He/she is just hooked on the wet cat food. Ditch wet cat food slowly, that is mix into the kibbles. If you want to give him/her something healthy. Look into making duck/chicken soup. Key here is not to give too much that they go off their kibbles. Good luck....keep the questions coming, that how we all learn.

Our ferrets eat soupies twice a day and kibble during the day. They can adjust.

Update: Mushu is now completely off the cat food and happily eating his Zupreem. But I was asking some questions about the best food for him on another site and someone called me a bad ferrent because I'm giving him kibbles, is a raw diet much better for him than kibbles? I research any kibble I'm considering giving him extensively (which is why I've stuck with Zupreem) but if a raw diet is Better how do I go about getting him on a raw diet.
