2nd batch o soup plus bones?
-
Wednesday, April 29, 2015 8:56 PM
sooo, I made my 2nd batch of soup today, used chicken both meats and skin, blended (giant food processor) with a couple eggs and chicken broth. Came out a lot smoother than my first batch, and the kids are lovin it, I put heavy cream in Flaca's portion as she is the oldest. Does anybody know how to " grind" the bones up to incorporate it into the soup? Is that even something people do? I know bones are super nutritious, but I don't just wanna give me bones to chew on, I don't think anybody except Jungle would start goin at them anyways, but I worry about splinters, splinters. I am currently slow cooking bones for broth for 12 hrs as I type this. , I read somewhere if you add vinegar it will make the bones soft to blend, but is that ok for the ferrets? Anything would help!

From what I know, raw bones are ok. They splinter when they're cooked.

raw bones only. No cooked bones. What I do with the cook bones the ends....I crumb it up with my fingers - bone marrow. Then put it into the blender. If it doesn't break apart...it doesn't go into the blender. I hope this helps

For older ferrets I put a little bone meal in their soups to help thicken up their stools. You can also use a little bit of eggshell. I just rinse all the shells and then put them in a coffee or spice grinder once they've dried.

Awesome, thx for the tips, I crumbled the ends like u said Westminster, then I took a little knife and dug out as much marrow as I could, I didn't even know you could do that, im gonna freeze this batch of chicken though, because I just made a batch of soup. I think I'm gonna try the eggshell bit too.
