Ferret elevation changes help - Friday, April 24, 2015 3:04 PM
I have 2 fuzzies in my life. I live in Virginia but am planning a move to Colorado. I would like to know if I should have any concerns with ear popping due to pressure changes, like can happen to us humans. Does anyone have any advice about care, if they will be able to handle it?

Thanks

We are looking at Pueblo, Co which is about 4700 feet. I currently live in Virginia, so big elevation change.

I'd be more concerned with the trip. Driving there with them would be the best way for them to acclimate to the changing pressure difference. I wouldn't willingly fly my animals unless i absolutely have to due to how they are transported. They are not given food or water and anything in the cage is thrown away before the flight. No blankets, toys, anything. It is up to individual handlers to provide bedding or water which rarely ever happens unless a cute animal comes through. Also if there are any delays or what not they are not obligated to care for the animals. Your ferrets could be put on a 24 hour hold without food and water.

I agree with that absolutely. I would never fly with them. I actually have a ferret nation cage at the moment, and the van they will be in is completely empty save for the drivers seat. So I plan to secure a section of the cage, with hammock, a food bowl clipped to a corner and water bottle. I think that would be ok. I would hate to have them cramped in a carrier.

I plan to stop every few hours to check on em and let them out supervised for an hour or so.
