My best advice is to frequent forums like this and learn all you can, and research as well. I found that the first couple vets I took my ferrets to claimed to treat "exotics" but when it came to it, I knew as much about ferret illnesses as they. That said, they were willing to work with me based on my knowledge and research. Unless you find a vet experienced with ferrets, that's what you'll need, so you'll need to know what you're talking about. Where I am, ferrets are required by the county to have rabies vaccine, but the odds of them getting rabies are so remote we don't do it. Canine distemper is more likely to occur. The trusted CDV vaccine for ferets is not currently in production, and the replacement is questionable. Here is the American FErret Assn statement regarding CDV vax. http://ferret.org/pdfs/policy_cdv.pdf If you do rabies, make sure it is the correct vaccine in the correct dose.
