Dig box question - Tuesday, April 07, 2015 6:15 PM
what are people's experience with using dirt in a digbox? My only concern is how dirty are the little buggers going to get, and how much diet are they going to track on the carpet, once they come out. I am planning on a secure lid with a ferret sized hole they can climb in and out from, to eliminate flying dirt as much as possible. I bought a bunch of non instant rice, but it seems to me that they would have more fun in dirt...

They probably would have more fun in dirt, as mine really enjoy digging outside, but I wouldn't want that mess inside. I think the best way to possibly minimize it would be with a mat underneath to break dirt off their feet, like the cat litter mats. But they might go to the bathroom in it too which is messier than with rice. You could always try a small one in a bathroom or something to see how it goes.

I'm  not gonna lie.... It is messy. They will love it though. They get it in their ears and nose. You'll have to wipe them off when they come out, as it will be all over them.(mine will shake it off and rub on carpet after they get out)  Don't put the box near carpet. Hope this helps.

Mine were never very interested in the dirt when it became extremely dry like dust. Find a way to keep it just short of damp, like spraying, mixing and then letting it sit.

Haha unclejoe! Same thing happened to my daughters sand box. Hmm,  why is the sand yellow..... Guess the cat thought a kiddie pool full of sand made for an awesome litter box😛....
