Travel Cage Comparison - Sunday, December 14, 2014 6:01 PM
Hey, realized before going out to visit family for the holidays that my travel cage for my ferrets is... not going to cut it.
When I had two and they were babies it was fine, but now they are larger and have a big fatty brother and I just don't see them being comfortable in their current travel cage for a week.

I am looking at two cages. (I need to measure my car for both still, so that may make the decision for me). I want under or right around 100$.
Aside from that my biggest concern is MOBILITY. Can I carry it with one person comfortably without it being awkward? Do I need two people to carry it? Is it meant to be movable?

This cage is the Living World Deluxa Habitat - XLarge (47x23x24) $99
http://www.drsfostersmith.com/product/prod_display.cfm?c=6067+28200+23958&pcatid=23958

It says "suitable for ferrets" but no one in the reveiws actually uses this for ferrets. Curious if anyone here has used it for ferrets or any other animals personally, and how they feel it would work for them.

I like how sturdy it looks.
I like how the bottom is deep and unlikely that they will poop out of the edge of the box into my car or onto the floor of whomever's house I am at.
I dislike how small the balcony on it is.
Looks easy for accessory hookup.

Frisky Ferret Small Animal (Found elsewhere for $99)
http://www.petsmart.com/small-pet/cages-habitats-hutches/prevue-frisky-ferret-small-animal-cage-zid36-5171217/cat-36-catid-600011

Looks similar to the bottom half of my ferret nation 182 but without the pricetag of the 141.

Concerns: Do not need the storage shelf underneath, but like the height.
May need to be disassembled for transport in my car (hatchback scion tc) which means I may need another carrier to move them in, which seems like a hassle.

Does anyone know if the legs and sides are one unit or if I could remove the legs and keep the rest of the cage structurally intact?

Petco brand ferret house - On sale for 54$ it is the best choice economically but I worry, again, about space. I will need to put beds and litter boxes as well as food bowls in there with some toys.

Basically this would  be a home for up to one week at a time. They would NOT be getting outside time that they are typically used to (they free roam at home MOST of the week, sometimes get put away). I won't leave them out if I am not at home, and my mom has 3 dogs. One is elderly and the only one that would be near the cage so I am not worried about the dogs. The other two are puppies and not allowed in this section of the house... There are also cats there. 1 is a cat used to hunting and killing rabbits. She won't bother the ferrets if I am with them but I don't want to worry about her getting into the cage. She also does not like company and likely won't hassle the cage.

Do you guys think either of these are enough room or not enough room? I will try to let them out for at least an hour or two per day, but given it's holiday time and people are in and out I worry about it. Currently have no friends in the area that would warrant a pet sitter or leaving them home.

Thanks for input, feel free to suggest another cage as well.

I love my martin's cages for traveling:  http://www.martinscages.com/products/cages/ferret/
I have the 3018, which collapses and is easily stored when not in use.

We also have a modified super pet "my first home"  (http://www.superpetusa.com/product-list/my-first-home-extra-large.htm).  We had Barry from Kritter Koncepts create a new cage topper for it that is more sturdy and is easier for humans to open (but harder for ferrets to open).

Another option is the marshall folding cage:  http://www.ferret.com/item/marshall-folding-mansion-ferret-home/650715/   Although traveling is easy with it, note that it doesn't have the same floor situation as the FN182; it only has a few shelves and 1 platform.

Thanks for the responses guys :)

I really liked the marshalls folding mansion but not the price tag. I feel like for that I'd just get another FN 182. I got my FN on sale for like 88$ (double unit one) a year ago, so it's been really hard finding something im willing to spend money on lol!
Think I will probably go with the living world one even though I think it might take up more space when not in use than the others >.<

I'll do a cage write up on everything once I receive it incase anyone is looking at it in the future.

Parts might. I saw a smaller one in the store in its packaging it seemed, for the most part, that it all fit down into the base tray at least.
