RIP Laska - Sweet, kind soul... - Friday, August 08, 2014 6:02 PM

Hi all...

Sorry I never really posted much here... I've always had so much going on... But I had to make some kind of memorial online for my little Laska... Laska means Kindness in Russian and she was the epitome of kindness! The only time she ever bit me hard was through a plastic bag when she didn't know it was me. :P
This was one of the photos when she was in her prime:

Until the very last day of her life, at 6 years old, she has always brought that yellow duckie back into her hiding place. Even when she felt really awful...

She was diagnosed with a potential cancer as her lymph nodes were very swollen just last week and her blood tests could show that too... Before even an appointment of a full body scan (an outside specialist was going to come to the exotic animal vet on next Saturday (not the one tomorrow)... she stopped eating and drinking. With the awful scratching she kept doing to her lower belly, my mom brought her to the vet. They did another x-ray and saw that her lungs were starting to give out. Her eyes showed exchaustion and her hind legs wouldn't move much.

We decided it was time. I held her in my arms when they gave her the sedatives, trying to pet her and to tell her how much I loved her.

This was the last view I had of her... I'm going to miss her so much... When I let the remaining ferret (she's going through treatment for insulinoma) out to play... I keep looking in the cage, the box in the hallway and behind the corner to see if Laska's there... I'm just so used to seeing her that it's such a shock that I'll never see her again.

The evening before, I felt like it was close to the end so I gave her a ferret candy (that vitamin treat for ferrets) and she stood up on her hind legs to show that she wanted to climb onto my leg. This sign has always been for me to pick her up and give her cuddles. I'm happy that I was able to give her some happiness before her last day, but I do wish I could have done more...

Now her adoptive little sister will be sleeping alone... I have one of the many pics of them together in the past:

A part of my heart died that day with her... I'll love and miss you forever, Laska... <3

I am so sorry for your loss, it sounds like Laska was very loved.Find comfort in knowing she felt that way until the end. Best wishes
