Fosters now have 4 ever home. A Bittersweet story - Tuesday, August 18, 2015 8:20 PM
HI all not new here, but wanted to introduce the new fuzzy crew.
Beginning of July we were asked to help out a ferret rescue friend by fostering 3 ferrets for a short time while she helps find them a new forever home. At the time we had 3 of our own Pirate our baby boy (RIP my little man) Captain (RIP  my tubby butt) and Morgan.
The 3 foster boys were just awesome seeking out human attention and play, love cuddles. BUT having 3 already Pirate battling with Lymphoma and Captain (mostly blind at this point) and Morgan a bonded pair we didn't try to introduce them as we didn't want any issues with our older ferrets (Pirate was 8 and Captain was around the same age) or have them start to bond and have to give them away. Plus Pirate was a solitary ferret (separate cage/play time) he ruled the house 2 dogs and 2 other ferrets and he was the king, so now we had 3 separate play times everyday, a lot of work and time.
On the 30th we had one of the worst days ever we had to say goodbye to both of our boys. Pirate couldn't breathe and Captain had stopped eating and lost 1/2 his body weight in 5 days. We had to say goodbye and let them go to the rainbow bridge, we could not see them suffering anymore. Part of our hearts died that day with them.
Heartbroken and distraught the wife and I with our Little Morgan came home to 2 empty cages that just ripped out what was left of our hearts, but there in cage # 3 were 3 faces looking at us as if to say it will be OK we are here for you. We knew that they were now in their new 4 ever home and although they would never replace our boys, their faces did help ease the pain just a tad.
So now we were the new proud ferrants of 3 big ole boys. Shamus a cream colored ferret that is HUGE I mean BIG and FAT (he has to weigh close to 7 pounds, he has fat rolls on his belly and arms)  he is such a sweet and gentle ferret. Abercrombie or Crombie aka Zombie as we call him is a large DEW who is a pile of MUSH the minute you pick him up "Oh you petting me OK I just lay here. ahhhhh". Bandit now known as Plunder (we refuse to have a ferret named Bandit sorry just to predictable and common, NO offense to all the Bandits out there) is a sable but very dark almost black, he is the thief, the mischief maker, the playful one. He looks like my Pirate and reminds me of him in so many ways.
Now we are back down to 2 cages and 2 playtimes but we are now dealing with a VERY DEPRESSED and Lonely Morgan, she doesn't want to play, just moping around mourning her buddy Captain. So we gave her lots of extra attention and love but she was still very lonely, so we tried to give her some fuzzy company and introduced her to Crombie Zombie. Morgan is Tiny, Crombies Head is like 3 times the size of hers and his body is 2X as long (Shamus is even bigger). At first she bite his ears and ran he did nothing, she did it again, and again he did nothing, then they started to follow one another and soon they were playing and playing nice, no squeaks, squeals, or rough play. So then since this was working so well we decided to try someone else (Last time we tried intros Pirate tried to KILL both Captain and Morgan so this was awesome in our book) Shamus was sleeping (as usual) so we took out Plunder, a little more apprehensive of him since he is the wily one, we put him down and watched as Morgan did the same thing with him bite, run, bite, run,  he went after her faster than Zombie boy but not in an aggressive way, soon the 3 of them were chasing and following each other. Now awake we added Shamus to the mix he is not as active as the others as you would expect from an obese ferret, but he too showed interest in her, and her in him. So now she has 3 hulking men paying attention to her (Captain was a fatty too so I guess she likes em big)
So we watched carefully as they ran a muck and before we even realized it Zombie and Morgan were curled up in Pirates Den napping together. So now for the first time ever we have a ferret business that all get along and all live in one cage. We smiled and rejoiced that we finally had a happy ferret family, but cried as it was because we had to say good bye to our baby boy, our beloved carpet shark our terror of the seven carpets our Pirate.
So in a way we all saved each other Pirate opened the door to the ferret world to us (the best thing we ever did was take him home 8 years ago) which led to us adopting Captain and Morgan, and the fostering and placement of Magii. The passing of our 2 boys opened up the door to save 3 other boys who needed a home and those 3 boys saved us and our Morgan. The paw prints that are missing from our hearts will never be filled in but the new paws scratching at our hearts make the days go just a little easier.
Amazing how something so small can bring so much joy , and pain, and how they can save us just as much as we can save them

What a great story, it's inexplainable the feeling you get when ferrets start getting along with each other. Although one chapter ends in your ferret adventure, it seems a new one seamlessly opens, we experienced this as well when we lost our 2 boys, whe adopted 2 off of kijiji (like Craigslist)' and we didn't see any pictures, when we saw them for the first time they looked so much like tex and Cuete and they both got along with Flaca, who was lonely after she lost her two boys. Also, it's so much less work when you have ONE Playtime. We have 2 now, three at one point. The only time when we had one was when we still had tex and Cuete. I'm  glad to hear Morgan has companionship again. Best of luck.

So sorry for your losses again, I can't imagine losing two at once. I am happy for you that your family was able to make another family, and that Morgan seems to be doing well. I'd love to see pictures of the chubbers!

The zombie theme is very close to me. I like both movies and games about zombies. This is a very cool theme, created at one time by fans, thanks to the rapid development and mutation of various viruses.
But this is not the point, the last few years I have spent my time learning how to survive correctly, what to do and how to act in these conditions.
Since I am originally from Canada, I will write on this example myself.
There are a lot of swampy places in Canada where it will be difficult for zombies to get through. But this does not exclude the factor that there may be a sufficient number of people living there who may become infected with the virus or be attacked. In turn, I will say that the presence of weapons stores or warehouses is also an important factor.
However, my point of view would not be without a report from the casinoshunter. According to the casinoshunter guide, the best place to survive is the north of Canada, due to the cold weather and the availability of fresh water.
Read on and share your opinion on where it would be best to survive if the zombie apocalypse does come.
