Just lost my first ever ferret quite unexpectedly. She was only 5. How do you cope with losing a beloved fert?

You cope with it like any loss you have experienced. I have lost grandparents, parents, a son and in December I lost a sister. I am 70 yrs old so many pets in my past I have lost 34 ferrets to many cats to count and dogs too and we had horses rabbits hampsters, hedgehogs and even had a rooster. You live through it by remembering all the good memories you have of your pets or your other loved ones. It is never easy you will never forget but as time goes by the pain comes less and less but the memories become stronger and you realize you are coping and it is not hard at all. I am sorry you lost your little one ferrets are a special animal I still have 14 ferrets and one cat slowly my animals are going over the bridge but I mourn them and then remember them and all their little quirks. I am so happy I have had them in my life and I am sure they were glad to be in mine that is all that matters.

Thank you. This is the first time I've lost a pet and it was such a shock, she was only 5 and they still don't know what happened.

I'm really sorry. I wish I could give you some advice to stop the hurt, but all you can do is remember all the happiness you shared. I've lost 10 in just over 7 years and it hurt every time. But i can't picture life without ferrets ever again. For a time when ever I lost one I happened to find 2 that needed new homes. It helped, but of course you can never replace a beloved pet with another one. They're all unique.
