Extremely Tired after Rabies Shot
-
Tuesday, September 08, 2015 9:18 PM
Hello everyone, I am new to the ferret world, for I just got my adorable baby a few months ago. When I bought her, she had one shot of distemper when she was very young. She is now about 20 weeks old, and I took her in to get her second distemper and rabies shot 9 days ago. The vet informed me that the distemper vaccine has been back ordered for 6 months and they don't know if/when they will receive their shipment. There are other vets in town, but they do not have the distemper vaccine either... Because of this, she only received her rabies shot. Ever since that visit, my little girl has done nothing but sleep. She used to play for a few hours and then sleep for a few hours and repeat. Now, she might play for an hour or so per day. I have heard of them being tired for 48 hours, but 9 days seems too long. It makes me nervous as well, because there were many dogs at the vet and she hasn't had her distemper vaccines. What are your thoughts?

9 days is a long time, but if she had an actually reaction to the vaccine it would have happened withing 20 minutes. Also, the reason the distemper vaccine is not being produced is because the incidence in way down, so it's not likely she has that either. Do you play with her? Maybe she's just bored. Ferrets (at least most of mine) go through phases. Right now mine are all fired up. But the past few weeks, they would go an hour and find a place to rack out.
