wont eat his kibble
-
Tuesday, July 14, 2015 10:43 AM
Hi Im a new ferret mom and dont know any others who have ferrets and my breeder was feeding his ferrets shitty whiskas meaty selections food. All his ferrets seem happy and content, however my Bruce is getting fed better ... i hope. I just want some advise on feeding my.guys a healthy affordable diet. He gets natures variety chicken kibble made for cats as the protein content is 40%. I did some research on this food and others agree it is good kibble for ferrets. I also feed him 1 pinky a week, 1 or 2 chicken dinner or liver dinner or lamb dinner a week and 1 or 2 egg yolk meals a week. My income isnt high as i have been saving for vet bills. I would love to feed him a complete raw diet but my income doesnt alot for that ... he already eats better then me haha. Ive been having troubles getting him to eat his kibble. He knows that when i Home he will get some kind of raw food once per day. He wont eat his kibble now and ive tried soaking the kibble in liver/chicken or beef blood and he he will eat it but mainly drink the blood ha. How can i entice him to eat the kibble without sacrificing a treat for when he gets out of his cage?

We have kibble available in various locations 24/7. They (8 of em) get 2 bowls of soup to share twice a day. So they can eat when hungry, but they do like soups. They don't eat a ton. but nibble during the day. It sounds like you might be just a step from all raw diet. It's a matter of designing the right diet.

we feed a mix of 3 kibbles. Drs Foster and smith, zupreem and natural gold cat. we grind that in a coffee maker into powder. We mix 1/3 by volume, not weight, with about the same volume raw ground turkey and canned cat food (no veggies) add enough water to make a thin soup. They share it morning and evening. I divide it up so that hopefully, everyone gets a shot at it, plus we make sure that our two elders get some.
