I usually quarantine all my new comers in a separate cage, for the following reasons:
1. I usually wait until they have seen a vet, for their vaccines and check for ear mites.
2. Gives them time to settled into their new home and explorer on their own terms.
3. Keeping in separate cage, I can monitor them making sure they are eating and pooping. Not stressing out in a new environment. this is time I will start introducing my food to the little one. I like to keep eye on their stool. If they are stress, this might bring up some under line health problem. This is something to watch for.
4. Gives me time to bond with the little one and make him/her feel comfortable in their new forever home.
5. Let's not forget potty training.
This works in our household....I hope this helps
