Pet store vs shelter? - Monday, December 01, 2014 8:05 AM
Who doesn't love cute little ferret babies? I, along with many other ferret lovers adore them! They are readily available at pet stores and as cute as ever...However, there are many ferrets at shelters that are in need of a loving home. Sadly, it seems (and I have even seen it at pet stores) adults are overlooked because the little babies take the spot light when it comes to buying a pet.

So, should I buy from a pet store because I could start with a couple of cute wee babies that I could train and raise? And secondly, have the accomplishment of well trained ferrets?

Or should I adopt two good ferrets from a shelter? I do know the many good pros of a shelter, (such as cheaper, litter/bite trained vaccinated ferrets)  and I would like if anyone could give me some info on  their adoption experience. Maybe some tips?

There is this shelter located in my area (Fairfield OH) it's called the "Love Me Again Ferret Rescue" has anyone had experience from this shelter? I have called it before, and while the director of the shelter is very nice, she always seems to be busy...So any more info about this shelter would be great!

All 3 of my little fuzzbutts have come from the same rescue. It was a great experience. The lady that runs the rescue is very informative and willing to answer any questions. She is always available. Fortunately for me she lives very close by and even has a ferret supplies store. All 3 of my fuzzies are very well mannered. They range from 2 1/2 to 3 1/2 yrs. Old. Since this is my first time owning ferrets, I couldnt have asked for any better. But also realize that when rescuing they may not always be healthy when the rescue receives them.( 2 of my fuzzies do have adrenal disease.) But the rescue do know about each ferret. They know their likes and dislikes, what they like to play with, what they like to eat, knows their temperament and personalities. And which would be more suitable for you. With all that being said....it is up to you on what route you want to take. Hopefully the rescue near you is just as great. I would go to a rescue, handle the ferrets, ask questions then do the same for the pet store. Maybe that will help you decide. Best wishes in what ever you so choose. :)

Just a thought, why not both get 2 adults from the shelter and a baby from pet store? That way ya can help save to ferrets that need a good home and have all the laughs and love they bring with them and then ya can have the joy of raising and training a baby and again have all the love and laughs it will bring as well
