Selective hearing?

I was pretty convinced that Pandora was deaf, but the last week or so, I'm not so sure. When I call her by name, even loudly, "Pandy Pandy Pandy!," she doesn't respond. But when I call "Soupies!" in my high-pitched ferret-talk voice, she magically appears. And today when I ran the vacuum in the ferret room she and Abita both popped out of a drawer at the same time. She also doesn't respond to a squeakie. Others respond to "Soupies!" so maybe I should just call them that way, but I hate for them to show up and not get rewarded.

hahaha like cats! Thats pretty cool that she listens to something though, I guess she's not deaf? It doesnt surprise me one bit that a ferret only hears what it wants. Also Flaca doesnt respond to squeakies she is white too, Ive heard that white ferrets tend to be more deaf, but maybe they can only hear certain frequencies? (like the high pitch voice), have you tried saying other things to get her attention in the same pitch voice?

Not a single one of my 4 respond to their name... about sometimes maybe Jackie, lol. But Jackie is the ONLY one to respond much to a squeakie and that's only to full on attack the hand it's holding.

All of my 19 ferrets come when called as long as they aren't in a playful fight. If they are into something and I yell their name they go running they know who I am yelling at. My Kolby is a stinker and is always getting into something and I love watching him high tail it off my make up table which he loves to get into. They also come to squeaky toys but a few of them hate the noise and will come running and attack me if I don't stop squeaking the toy when they get near me. Mine have at times used selective hearing and try to ignore me but I don't ignore easily.

She did it again this morning. Dar gets up before me and lets them all out. Today, I hadn't even seen Pandy, but I made soups and called "Soupies!" and turned around and there she was at my feet.
