Hi, everybody, my ferret blood test look fine for the vet, since she been hill she sleep more often and about two days ago she look like she's got could and flu, I can hearing she's got mucus on the breathing can you tell me if is possible she 's got it and if so it is normal she's a bit down, when she is wake she look like fine exited heat and drink and pooing as normal . she loosing a bit of weight it is because the flu can you tell me something about? thank you.

I'm not sure what medicines you have over there but you can use guaifenesin for the congestion/mucus. Over here it's called Mucenex. Use the children's liquid. I copied and pasted this from the Ferret Health List in Yahoo Groups. Guaifenesin (the stuff in mucinex) is safe for ferrets. (I'm sorry I did not save the link, but this is the text we copied from that post: Dextromethorphan/Guaifenesin (Robitussin DM ®) – This product can be used to treat coughing in dogs, cats and ferrets, at a dosage of 0.05 ml/lb every 8 hours. Make sure that it is the ‘DM’ product only. It can also cause some mild sedation.) Dextromethorphan is a cough suppressant. I'm not sure why you'd want a cough suppressant along with an expectorant, but it is safe. We are currently using just the guaifenesin on two of our ferrets.
