HELP so frustrated
-
Monday, May 26, 2014 2:28 AM
So i have 5 ferrets, archer 3years, zorro 3years, boost 4years, Laurel 5 or 6 years and Zanda less than a year. Archer has recently been biting the necks of the other ferrets and laurel especially to the point that it is bleeding. I separated archer and zorro out because i adopted thoughs two together and they were doing fine. Added them all back together and archer started back up again. So i separated again. Now archer is going after zorro. I don't know what to do? Could he be becoming adrenal? I thought this was a seasonal change but its continuing on for quite some time. Im to the point of putting him all alone. I have the cage space, but would like any input. Has this happened to anyone else? Thank you in advance.

3 is a bit young, but not unheard of. I for one hope it's not adrenal. Adrenal can present with all of the signs or only one at a time. I had always been told that it starts with hair loss at the base of the tail, but I've had 2 cases where the tail was the last to go. The first one's first sign was aggression followed by hair loss on on side, which quickly progressed to general hair loss. Is Archer losing any hair at all? I check by pinching a bunch of fur between my fingertips and palm and gently pulling. You shouldn't get more than a couple hairs unless it's shedding season.

When my Carson was adrenal the first sign was aggression. He was always very mellow before. The only hair loss he had was a quarter sign spot between his shoulder blades. Archer is kind of young but it seems with spaying and neutering younger to get them in pet shops quicker they are getting it sooner.
