Sickness contagious to ferrets?
-
Tuesday, April 22, 2014 3:09 PM
Hey there everyone! For the past few days I've been really sick with a double eye infection, ear infections, sinus infection, and respiatory infection. Rough, I know. Great way to spend my spring break, huh? :P Anyways, back to the important part, I was wondering if any of these are contagious to my fuzzies? I know that they can catch the flu, but I'm nervous to go too close to them.

Wow, when you get sick you don't play. Any of those could have been brought on by flu, which can weaken the immune system. I would suspect that they have bacteria as the active cause, and many of those are communicable as well. So to be safe, I would minimize contact with them. You can get surgical masks at any drug store, and I would also use hand sanitizer before and after handling them. Wash your hands with antibacterial soap frequently throughout the day. Is there anyone who can handle the ferret chores until you get over all of this? I hope you feel better soon and that the fuzz don't catch any of it.
